Why a few numbers beat a big report
A taxi business generates a lot of data. Most of it does not help. Pick six to eight numbers, look at them every week at the same time, and act when one moves.
Demand: are riders coming?
- Rides per day: completed rides, not requests.
- Average fare: total fare divided by completed rides.
- New riders per week: first-time riders.
- Cost per new rider: marketing spend divided by new riders.
Retention: are they coming back?
- Repeat rate: share of riders who ride again within 30 days of their first ride.
- Rides per active rider a month.
- Churn: share of riders who stopped riding.
Retention is where a small change gives the biggest result. See the Growth System and the guide on rider retention.
Supply: do you have enough cars?
- Acceptance rate: share of ride offers that drivers accept.
- Time to pickup: how long a rider waits.
- Cancellations: by rider and by driver, and the reasons.
- Active drivers: drivers with at least one ride in the last 30 days.
Money: is it worth it?
- Revenue per ride and revenue per driver hour.
- Share of rides in your own app compared with marketplace apps.
- Platform and payment costs per ride.
A simple weekly routine
- Pick one day and time. Same time every week.
- Write down the numbers and compare with last week.
- Choose one thing to improve and one person to own it.
- Check it next week.
FAQ
Which number should I watch first?
Rides per day and repeat rate. One says whether riders come, the other whether they stay.
What is a good repeat rate?
It depends on your market and service. Compare yourself with your own past numbers instead of an outside number.
How often should I look?
Weekly for most numbers, daily for rides and cancellations during a launch.
Where do I get these numbers?
From your admin panel or growth dashboard. If your tool cannot show them, ask the vendor before you sign.
